Foundation Licence
Format of Foundation, Intermediate and Full call signs
- Foundation Licence M6AAA
M6+3 and M7+3 letters are current Foundation Licence call signs in England eg M6AAA
- Intermediate Licence 2E0AAA
A 2E0+3 letter call signifies an Intermediate Licence holder grade and in England
- Full Licence M0AAA
An M0+3 letter call both signify an Full Licence holder grade in England also called a FULL Licence Holder.
Regional Secondary Locators (RSL’s)
Now we may use Regional Secondary Locators (RSL’s). These are optional and help to locate a station geographically. These are:
- W for Wales
- U for Guernsey
- M for Scotland
- I for Northern Ireland
- J for Jersey
- D for Isle of Man
- E for England
RSL must be used for intermediate licence callsigns that begin with the number 2. e.g. 2I0+3 letters Intermediate licence holder call for Northern Ireland. From 2024 new Intermediate calls may start with M8 or M9.

Conditon for Foundation Licence
An M6+3 letter call (eg M6AVI) or M7+3 signifies a Foundation Licence holder in ENGLAND
For the other regions the secondary identifier is added immediately after the initial “M” as shown below.
MM6+3 call would indicate the licence holder has his main station address in SCOTLAND
Station Identification
- (a) The station is clearly identifiable at all times;
- (b) The callsign is transmitted as frequently as is practicable during transmissions;
- (c) The callsign is given in voice or other appropriate format consistent with the mode of operation;
